Personal growth and identity. This will be done through a personal journal this year incorporating mindfulness, gratitude, and other such activities.

Inquiry Learning Area - Social Science and Technology

The Big idea: Change is important. We will be discovering more about Water, Land, Air and Animals as modes of transport. All of these have changed over time.

Lines of Inquiry:

- Changes in transport have improved our lives. (movement of people, products and information)

- Comparing past and present types of transportation.

- Why has transportation changed over time?

Literacy -

Reading: We will be focusing on

Making connections from what we already know to information in the text.

Vocabulary understanding new words.

Synthesising-using the text information and own prior knowledge to develop new understandings.

Skimming and Scanning to find research information.

Writing: Our focus for this term will be Poetry including figurative language. We will also be practising our editing skills using the Writers Toolbox modules.

Handwriting: Cursive handwriting sessions weekly.

Oral Language: Daily sharing and participating in groups.

PE -

Focus: Adventure Based Learning and Game Creation

NZ Curriculum Key Concepts:

Participate in cooperative and competitive activities and describe how cooperation and competition can affect people’s behaviour and the quality of the experience.
Identify and compare ways of establishing relationships and managing changing relationships.
Participate in and create a variety of games and activities and discuss the enjoyment that these activities can bring to them and others.

Music -

Focus: Getting comfortable with set roles within a class band. Using musical and graphic notation.

Learning a Maori haka, action song and moemoea (chant) that supports a particular occasion e.g. welcome, speech, Matariki.

Singing songs with a guitar accompaniment.

Focus: Extending their knowledge of line, colour and value (tone) in art through exploring different drawing and painting techniques. Looking at practicing NZ artists to explore new ways of working.
