Tragedy struck the Shirley family on Tuesday 1st of September as Old Boy Matt Ngataki (2010 - 2014) was killed in a serious car accident.  Matt was a leader within the school, as a member of the Blake House executive, and a well-respected athlete who represented the school in Rugby, Volleyball and Softball.  He was also nominated for Sportsman of the Year in 2014 on the basis of selection for Canterbury honours in Rugby and New Zealand Junior honours in Softball.

He was well thought of by his peers, and their devastation and shock is clear through the comments on the school's media sites in addition to the visits and phone calls the school has received in the days since.

The thoughts of the school and its wider community are with Claire, Shane, Lee-Ann and Max in this difficult time; and we are grateful for all that Matt and his family have done to contribute to the richness of our school.
