Shirley Boys' High School Uniform Policy

SBHS —

Uniform is an important part in establishing a strong culture at Shirley Boys’ High School. It contributes to developing student ownership and pride in their school as well as maintaining an identity in the community. All students are required to arrive at school wearing the correct uniform, and be in correct uniform when leaving school. PE gear is not to be worn to or from school.

Hair must be neatly presented and extremes of fashion. For example dreadlocks or bright colour, are not permitted. It must be kept off the face and shoulders (when standing upright). Long hair that touches the shoulders must be tied back with a single tie at the back of the head.

As the weather gets colder, we often have boys arriving at school in various hoodies and no-regulation jackets. These are not permitted. Please help us ensure all boys wear the correct uniform at all times.

The full winter uniform consists of:

  • Black leather dress shoes that can be polished. Not sports brand black shoes
  • Black SBHS socks with sky blue hoops (not Nike or other branded black socks)
  • EITHER dark navy knee length shorts with SBHS logo OR dark navy trousers with SBHS logo
  • Sky blue long sleeve shirt with SBHS logo
  • SBHS Tie
  • SBHS Jersey or vest (Not SBHS team hoodies or other hoodies)
  • SBHS Blazer (seniors only)
  • SBHS Jacket (optional for juniors)

Juniors (Year 9 and 10) can opt to wear the winter uniform in Terms 2 and 3 only. Please note; Junior students do not wear blazers.  During Terms 1 and 4 they must be wearing the summer uniform.

Seniors (Years 11-13) are required to wear the full winter uniform in Terms 2 and 3.  During Terms 1 and 4, they can wear either uniform.

If you do not have an item of uniform it is expected that;

  • You purchase the item from the uniform shop; or
  • You wear clothing that is as similar to the uniform as possible, and provide a note to the Deputy Headmaster stating why you do not have the correct uniform.

In most cases a phone call will be made home. It is expected that any uniform issues are dealt with as soon as possible.

Failure to comply to our standards will result in detentions being issued.

Jewellery -  Boys are permitted to have a plain stud earring, but no other piercings are accepted. See examples below. If a student has inappropriate piercings, it will be removed on site.

Our school has high expectations for the appearance and image of our students, therefore we enforce a strict uniform policy. If you have any concerns regarding uniform you can contact the Deans to discuss any issues.
