Clean up the Community -Rubbish at Ōrua Paeroa

Ethan Baker 9P —

I am writing this to raise awareness of our environment in and around our Ōrua Paeroa. Recently it has come to my attention that my school (SBHS) is ridden with rubbish. This causes a handful of problems for the wildlife around the school. E.g.- The Seagulls are arguably the most affected. Some of the trash that we leave around ends up in the stomachs of those birds. If we want to save them then we need to clean up. My Social studies teacher (Mr. Miller) has set us a task to better the environment. The assignment involved us choosing an area in our community that needed help. Some people chose to clean up their street.

I personally with others took to the school grounds hoping to rid this school of some of the rubbish lying around. Myself and Jayden Kay went to the middle courtyard and made it look considerably better.

Rubbish is a serious problem in our society, and there is one simple and easy solution. Scattered around the school, there are these green rectangles with red lids. They’re called “bins” and their purpose is to dispose of the rubbish. Your job is simply to put your rubbish in the bin instead of dropping it where you stand. By doing this, you are not only making your community look cleaner, but you are also bettering the environment for the animals as well.
