Sustainable Coastlines Planting Day

Roger Miller —

9N, 9E and Yr 13 Oed classes spent the afternoon planting Native trees on the banks of the Waimakariri last Tuesday.

The purpose was to help improve water quality by creating shade and shelter for fish and insects, which also helps moderate water temperature. It reduces erosion, stabilises banks and traps sediment, which in the end makes our waterways more pleasant for swimming and fishing.

The students managed to plant 350 plants in just over and hour. We would like to thank Sustainable Coastlines for organising the event and for providing the students an opportunity to give back to nature and our local community.
