Co-Curricular Opportunities

Matt Sharr —

At Shirley Boys’ High School we believe that education involves learning and citizenship both inside and outside the classroom. Supporting our extensive Spartans Sport programme are the many Creative Shirley arts and cultural activities.

In Year 9, students are required to commit to a minimum of two terms of some kind of physical activity.  Emphasis is on 'playing the game' and social interaction made possible through physical activity.  Many activities are prioritised for Year 9 students only.  They select their chosen activity/s before the start of the year they start at SBHS and attendance is closely monitored to ensure all students participate.  For more information about the Junior Spartans Programme (JSP), see the Spartans Sports Directory.

Students also have many opportunities to participate in art, music and cultural activities around the school, including for example - Debating, Pasifika Culture Group, Kapa Haka, Choir, Pipe Band, Jazz Band, Rock bands, Broadcasting, Philosophy and Chess.  For more information about clubs and other co-curricular activities, see the Creative Shirley Directory.
