Lipsync 2016

SBHS —

All the moves

Compered by Jesse Behan and Judah Watkinson, with guest compere Shirley Old Boy Rishi Patel, the predictably raunchy and frenetic interpretations actually revealed a considerable degree of performance skill, humour, dedication and excellent timing.

Avonside GHS judges Rachel Maisey, Rosie Griffoen, Shannoah McAlister and Cassidy Van Vuuren commented on the enormous energy and talent, awarding ‘Best Costume’ to Blake, ‘Best Lipsync’ to Snell and ‘Best Creative’ to Mullins with Mullins being the winner followed by Aoraki, Snell and Blake.

Backstage co-ordination, lighting and sound also deserved commendation.

Mullins House

Mullins won the Lipsync competition this year due to intensive planning (endless lists of things to do, props to buy, music to arrange), multiple lunchtime rehearsals, fabulous outfits (some of which are seared into SBHS history; Miley Cyrus in a leotard, Michael Jacksons’ gloves’, Josh’s silky boxers…) and of course the wrecking ball that knocked out Britney Spears and her back-up dancers. The performance was pulled together thanks to the commitment of Josh Archer and the electric choreography skills of Vivek Prakash. Fabulous job boys, let’s win it again next year!

Blake House

In line with past years of having a theme for the competition, Blake House choose High School Musical as their theme. The music and dance moves from the 2006 movie gave the students the opportunity to re live some of their youth as they re-created scenes and dance moves from the movie. The performance was entirely student driven and praise must be given to Matt Thomson who ran the event in its entirety.

Aoraki

With a busy time in the school, getting everyone together for rehearsals proved to be tough again. This having been said, Zac Adams (Aoraki House captain) and Miss Wilson worked tirelessly to bring it all together. This year’s theme was a sweet Venga Boys medley lovingly mixed by Logan Bramley. After a top overall performance, a special mention must go to Glen Beardsley who wowed the crowd with his dance moves. The whole school was in agreement that Aoraki were in the mix for first place! Unfortunately, the old foe Mullins pipped us again and we took second place. A big thanks for all the Aoraki boys that were involved, lets go one better next year!

Snell

Snell sought to repeat history by winning Lip Sync for the second year in a row.

Although indecisive in our theme choices, we eventually settled on a kiwi-themed set list full of New Zealand classics with Matthew Croft dressed as the iconic Fred Dagg. Boris Van Bruchem, Matt Gowans and Aidan McIntyre-Brill were a sheep, Jordan Luck and Dave Dobbyn respectively.

We were relying on our secret weapon of Cole Yeoman's pet goat to bring us the victory, but it wasn't to be, coming questionably third.

Huge thanks to all involved for your effort and participation.
