The South Island ANZAC Hockey Tournament is an important preseason tournament for the 10 schoolboy teams that attend. It allows coaches, both new and old to introduce team members to the demands of competing in a multi-day tournament and to work on team combinations for the upcoming season.

The skill level of the players improved over the three days and is an important preseason tournament prior to the 1stXI playing in the SSP Friday night hockey competition.

Ronald McDonald Family Dinner Programme

The 1stXI Hockey team also found time to cook on two occasions at the SI Ronald McDonald House on the two Friday nights during the school holidays.

Hockey - The two teams that cooked the dinner at Ronald McDonald House

The team cooked two very different, nutritious home-cooked meals for the patients and family members that are staying at Ronald McDonald House.

Cooking at the house is a great team building activity and allowed the boys to serve and give back to their community and those less fortunate than, themselves.

The 1stXI Hockey team challenges other Shirley first teams to take up the chance to cook at Ronald McDonald House and to give back to their community.
