Welcome Tim Grocott

Colin Amodeo —

This term we welcome Tim Grocott to Shirley Boys' High School.

Tim has come to us from Burnside High School where he was the Deputy-Principal leading some 700 students in North Division.  Apart from his duties as Associate Headmaster, he will also teach Year 11 History.

Tim left Shirley BHS at the end of 1990 for Canterbury University and a BA in History. Graduating from the Christchurch College of Education in 1996, he joined Papanui HS in 1997 to teach History and Social Studies as well as coaching cricket, touch and girls’ rugby.

Subsequently travelling overseas, he lived in London (1999-2000) teaching at Holland Park School (West London) and travelled extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East and the USA.

Back in New Zealand in 2001, he returned to Papanui HS becoming a Dean following a 9 to 13 Year Group and the teaching and learning co-ordinator. At the end of 2009, he was appointed to the Deputy Principal’s position at Burnside HS, leading some 700 students in North Division with oversight of sport, ICT infrastructure, working with middle leaders, future-focussed teaching and learning, and involvement in the Hereora Community Learning Cluster.

A PPTA study award in 2013 allowed him to complete his M.Ed (Hons) with a thesis on the way school leaders can raise the level of Maori academic achievement.

Married to Lara and with three daughters, Tim enjoys sport and plays cricket for East Christchurch Shirley in the President’s Grade and is a Director of the Shirley Sports Club which administers the Burwood Park clubrooms. He also joins his brother and Shirley’s Master-in-Charge of Cricket, Dave Grocott so the future for Shirley Cricket looks very positive.
