The annual year 9 and 10 Hockey Development, end of season trip took place the last weekend of November. The aim of the tour is to develop the hockey skills of our year 9 and 10 hockey players for the future of Shirley Hockey.

The end of year trip was to Timaru to play Timaru Boys Colts.

Two games were played over the weekend. Timaru Boys scored early in the game on Saturday evening and kept the pressure on all game and the final score of was 1-7. The boys got a hard lesson about the standard of hockey that is needed to be played against teams of higher calibre. They refocused overnight and the second game played on Sunday morning was much closer and we lost 0-1 due a local umpiring interpretation of the rules.

These two teams will play again in next month, when both schools will play in a pre-season weekend tournament that will involve both the 1st XI and Colts teams.

The end of season tour weekend away was successful and is now a regular fixture on the Shirley hockey calendar.
