Rugby League, Hockey, Orienteering, Boxing

Rugby League

Congratulations to SBHS  students  Dallas Hurrell-Jones, Kyan Kauhou-Soli, Sana Malei and Makaia Taufua (pictured above) who were part of the  South Island Scorpion Rugby League Representative (15 years)  team, who were placed third at the recent National Youth Rugby League Tournament in Rotorua.

Well done to Dallas Hurrell-Jones, who was also selected for the National Tournament Team.

Hockey

Congratulations to Hamish Church, who  was selected in the Canterbury Under 18 Mens Association Hockey Team.

In July they traveled to Pukekohe to the National Championships.

They won the competition after defeating the previously unbeaten Southern team.

Congratulations also to Charlie Wise, who travelled to Wanganui as a member of the Canterbury Under 15 Boys Hockey team earlier this month. The Canterbury team won the tournament scoring 43 goals and only conceded 8 goals. 

The team was coached by Dan McBride, who will be coaching the 1st XI Hockey team in 2020.

Orienteering

The Canterbury Schools Orienteering Competition was held in September and we had four students from SBHS competing

Felix Hunt (Year 9) ran up a grade (Year 10/11 boys) achieving second place in the sprint and long course

Tyler McCavitt, Darren Brabbs and Louie Campion competed well at their first attempt and managed to place Shirley Boys second in the Year 9 category.

Felix Hunt was also chosen to represent New Zealand Secondary Schools in Australia.

Boxing

Congratulations to Kwahli Beauchamp (Year 9) who won the New Zealand Championship recently for his weight division (40kg) and Leon Gibson (Year 10), who retained his division championship.
