  • Kings Exchange 2019

This year Shirley BHS hosted Kings HS in their annual cricket exchange here in Christchurch. Despite damp conditions both games started on time. The 1st XI game was played at school while the Junior XI game was played at Burwood Park. Both games ended in draws.

1st XI Game

Shirley Boys won the toss and put Kings into bat on a damp and seaming pitch. Kings fought their way through to 153/10 with Ryan Entwistle picking up 4 wickets for Shirley. In reply, Shirley scored 154/9 with Jaeden Hooper the best of the batsman with 62. Kings then scored 154/10 with Jaeden Hoper also performing well with the ball taking 4 wickets. This left Shirley with a chase of 154 in about 30 overs. On a deteriorating pitch, Shirley lost early wickets and had to fight hard to draw the game being well short of the target and 8 wickets down at the end.

SBHS 154/9 [Jaeden Hooper 62, Connor Watherston-Spencer 21] and 84/8 [Jayan Goldsworthy 22] drew with Kings HS 153/10 [Ryan Entwistle 4 - 41, Tanurag Singh 2- 42, Quinn Bungard 2 – 17] and 154/10 [Jaeden Hooper 4 – 49, Tanurag Singh 2 – 27, Connor McLaughlin 2 – 9]

Junior Game

SBHS batted first in this game and scored a well-constructed 199 all out. Ekamjot Singh was the best batsman scoring 92 and he was well supported by Mitch Gilmore with 37. In reply, Kings scored 207/6 declared with Luke Baxter getting 2 wickets. Shirley then scored 198/6 declared with Brad Prescott scoring 50 not out and Ekamjot Singh 36. This left Kings 190 to win in about 30 overs, which proved a difficult target. The game ended in a draw with Kings 85/2 at the end.

SBHS 199/10 [Ekamjot Singh 92, Mitchell Gilmore 37, and 198/6 [Bradley Prescott 50*, Ekamjot Singh 36, Tom Davies 19*] drew with Kings HS 207/6 declared [Luke Baxter 2-32] and 85/2.
