Shirley Boys’ Intermediate Basketball Team

DDG —

The Shirley Boys’ Intermediate Basketball team attended the South Island Southern Cup Basketball Tournament in Dunedin. The team was made up of Year 11 and 12 players were playing a mixture of Senior A teams and Senior B teams from other school around the South Island. 

After losing their first game to a much bigger Taieri High School, the team needed win all other games to progress. With comfortable wins over King’s High School, John McGlashin College, and a tight win over Menzies College, Shirley needed to beat Christ’s College by 17 points or more to get to the final. 

The boys found a new level and blew Christ’s off the court winning by 31 points. The final was then against Hagley College. Shirley lead from start to finish to win the tournament. 

Our referee Tyler Burns was also appointed to officiate the Girls’ Final. The Team was Mitchell Gilmore (Captain), Flynn Clarke, Mekhi Halliday, Lockie Marshall, Caleb McNicholl, Blake Ormiston, Keegan Piper, Tyrell Searle, Dominic Toli and Tylah Shaskey Coached by Daniel Gilmore and Nate Searle, Referee Tyler Burns.
