Thai Salesian Visit

Leanne Russ —

Shirley Boys was very honoured to host a contingent of Thai principals of the Salesian Order on Monday 18 September.

The principals visited New Zealand to investigate future educational trips and opportunities for their students.

Shirley is acting as a lead school for the Thai Salesian group who have a pool of 40,000 plus students.  Mr John Laurenson, the Headmaster of Shirley and Rev. Dr Smith Daengamphan signed a Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of Shirley and the Salesian group in the hope that we can work closely together in the future.

Mr Tim Grocott, Shirley's Associate Headmaster introduced the plans for our new school in 2019.

The group were very interested to learn about the New Zealand education system and the differences compared to Thailand. They enjoyed talking to Pete and Liew who are from Thailand and studying at Shirley this year.

Shirley has organised a consortium of ten Christchurch schools who can host up to 113 students on a short-term, three week study tour in March 2018. The hope is that some of these students will return to Christchurch as long-term students in the future.
