New Zealand Scholarship assessments enable students to be assessed against challenging standards. Assessment is by either an examination or by the submission of a portfolio or report of work produced throughout the year. Scholarship students are expected to demonstrate high-level critical thinking, abstraction and generalisation, and to integrate, synthesise and apply knowledge, skills, understanding, and ideas to complex situations – this is academically demanding to say the least.

In 2021 Shirley Boys’ High School had three successful Scholarship candidates, placing them in the top 3% nationally;

Isaiah Judkins was awarded Scholarship in English

Liam Sawyer was awarded Scholarship Photography

Gordon Homewood was awarded Scholarship for both Media Studies and Classics

We celebrated their success with a luncheon; inviting their teachers, mentors and Headmaster Tim Grocott presenting them with an award.

Shirley Boys’ will continue this tradition of celebrating academic excellence in the future.
