The following subjects are available for students to study in 2024

Mathematics: 11MAT Full Year

Course Description: This course is for all students who have gained numeracy from the pilot Numeracy Common Assessment Activity in 2023. All students will be taught the content to complete the two internal standards during Terms 1 and 2 and at least one external in Term 4. Students will have the opportunity to choose between a portfolio/report type assessment for Statistics or an examination covering Algebra & Geometry. Progress into a Year 12 course will be determined by which standards the students complete.

Recommended Entry Criteria: This course is for all students who have gained numeracy from the pilot Numeracy Common Assessment Activity in 2023.

Qualifications to be gained: Level 1 Achievement Standards, 20 credits

5 credits - Internal 1.1 Explore data using a statistical enquiry process.

5 credits - Internal 1.2 Use mathematical methods to explore problems that relate to life in Aotearoa New Zealand or the Pacific region.

5 credits - External 1.3 Interpret and apply mathematical and statistical information in context.

5 credits - External 1.4 Demonstrate mathematical reasoning.

Mathematics Foundation: 11MAF Full Year

Course Description: This course is for students needing extra support in their Mathematics, specifically those who did not pass the pilot Numeracy Common Assessment Activity in 2023. Content includes: arithmetic, measurement, geometry, statistics and probability at Level 1.

Recommended Entry Criteria: None

Qualifications to be gained: Level 1 Achievement Standards credits and Numeracy US 32406

Level 1 Numeracy: All credits count towards Numeracy

Mathematics: 12MCA Full Year

Course Description: This course is for students wanting to progress into a Calculus course in Year 13. Content includes algebra, graphing, calculus and Level 3 Complex Numbers.

Recommended Entry Criteria: A minimum of 14 Achievement Standards credits from 11MAT or 11MCA. Merit or above in Achievement Standards 91027 Algebra, 91028 Tables, Equations & Graphs and 91032 Trigonometry.

UE Literacy: No

Qualifications to be gained: Level 2 Achievement Standards credits and a Level 3 Achievement Standard if appropriate.

Course Description: This course is for students wanting to progress into a Maths or Statistics course in Year 13. Content includes: algebra, statistics and trigonometry and introduces; graphing techniques, co-ordinate geometry and calculus.

Recommended Entry Criteria: A minimum of 14 Achievement Standards credits from 11MAT or 11MCA, including Achieved or above in Achievement Standard 91027 Algebra, or 91037 Chance & Data.

Mathematics with Calculus: 13MCA Full Year

Course Description: This course should be taken by students considering courses involving pure Maths at University. These include: Engineering, Physics, and/or Chemistry. Content includes: geometry, trigonometry, algebra, differentiation and integration.

Recommended Entry Criteria: A minimum of 14 Achievement Standards credits from 12MCA or 12MAT, with Merit level or above in Achievement Standards 91257 Graphs, 91261 Algebra and 91262 Calculus.

Statistics: 13MST Full Year

Course Description: This course is to be taken by students who are looking to follow future study or employment in fields which require data analysis. These include Biology, Economics, Marketing, Geography or Psychology. Content includes: time series analysis, bivariate data analysis, statistical experiment and evaluating statistical reports.

Recommended Entry Criteria: A minimum of 14 credits from 12MCA or 12MAT with at least Achieved or higher in Achievement Standard 91267 Apply probability methods in solving problems.

UE Literacy: Yes - 4 credits Reading or Writing

UE Approved: Yes

Course Description: This course is to be taken by students who are unsure of their future pathway, but still want to continue with Maths. This course is a combination of Level 3 credits from Calculus and Statistics. Content includes: algebra, linear programming, trigonometry, bivariate data analysis and evaluating statistical reports.

Recommended Entry Criteria: Minimum of 10 Level 2 Achievement Standards credits from 12MCA or 12MAT course including AS 91267 Apply probability methods in solving problems.

UE Literacy: Yes - 4 credits Reading or Writing

UE Approved: Yes
