Mathematics: 11 Max

Course Description: This course is for students following an accelerated course in Maths. Content includes: arithmetic, algebra, statistics, probability, geometry, measurement and trigonometry at Levels 1 & 2.

Recommended Entry Criteria: Restricted to the top 60 students who have completed sufficient Level 1 credits to a high enough level in their 2018 Year 10 Maths course. End of year exam results will also be considered.

Approximate Contributions $30

Qualifications to be gained: A combination of Level 1 & 2 Credits. There will be an intense focus on Algebra. Courses will be tailored to individual ability and progress.

Level 1 Numeracy: All credits count towards Numeracy

Level 1 Literacy: Possible 4 credits towards Literacy

Mathematics:   12Max   Full Year

Course Description: As this is an extension course, the expectation is that students will gain Excellence and Merit grades. It revisits algebra, statistics and trigonometry and introduces; graphing techniques, co-ordinate geometry and calculus. A graphics calculator is highly recommended.

Recommended Entry Criteria: A minimum C pass in 11Mac or of 16 Achievement Standards credits from 11Mat or 11, including Merit or above in Achievement Standards 91028 (Tables, Equations and Graphics) and 91035 (Multivariate), or 91027 (MCAT) if appropriate.

UE Literacy: No

Mathematics Foundation:   12Maf   Full Year

Course Description: This course is tailored to the individual needs of the student, consisting only of Internal Achievement Standards

Recommended Entry Criteria: minimum of 12 Achievement Standard credits from their Year 11 Maths course. The numeracy Unit standard credits do not count towards this entry requirement.

Mathematics with Calculus:   13Mca   Full Year

Course Description: This course should be taken by students considering courses involving pure Maths at University. These include: Engineering, Physics, and/or Chemistry. Emphasis is given to formulation of problems in mathematical terms. A Graphics calculator is required.

Recommended Entry Criteria: A high degree of ability needs to be demonstrated. This will normally be through a minimum of 14 credits from 12Max or 12Mat, with Merit level at least in Achievement Standards 91261 (Apply algebraic methods in solving problems) or 91262 (Apply Calculus methods in solving problems).

UE Literacy: No

Statistics:   13Mst   Full Year

Course Description: This course is to be taken by students who are looking to follow future study or employment in fields which require data analysis. These include Biology, Economics and Marketing, Geography or Psychology. Half of this course is devoted to Statistics, laying the foundation of statistical decision-making. The remainder covers graphical techniques, linear programming, computational procedures and simple modelling. A Graphics calculator is required. A device is needed.

Recommended Entry Criteria: minimum of 14 credits from 12Max or 12Mat with at least Achieved or higher in Achievement Standard 91267 (Apply probability methods in solving problems).

UE Literacy: Possible 4 writing credits

Contributions: $30 for Statistics Learning Centre Subscription

This course is a hybrid of Level 3 credits from Calculus and Statistics. This a UE subject in it’s own right.

Course Description: Students will complete a combination of internal and external assessments. A Graphics calculator is required.

Recommended Entry Criteria: Minimum of 10 Level 2 Achievement Standard credits from 12Max or 12Mat course.

UE Literacy: Possible 4 Writing credits
