Automated External Defibrillator

John Fox —

Shirley Boys High has a  AED (Automated External Defibrillator) on site. It is in a locked cabinet mounted on the wall outside the Sick Bay, facing reception.

This  ensures our AED is available 24/7 for anyone at or near the school who needs to assist an unconscious person in cardiac distress.

Anyone needing to access the AED cabinet will follow the instructions on the cabinet and Ring 111 Emergency Ambulance.

The Emergency Operator will then give the caller a code to open the cabinet.

The AED will be easily accessible on a shelf inside the cabinet.

When the cabinet is opened, an alarm will sound, but this can be deactivated by either switching it off on the side of the battery housing, or by shutting the cabinet door.

The AED can then be opened beside the patient and by following the simple instructions accompanying it, treatment can commence.

Remember, an AED should only be used on an unconscious patient.

Once turned on, the AED will give you voice commands as to what action to take next.

The AED site has been logged by both St John Ambulance and the AED Locations website.

Hopefully this equipment gets little use, but is available if needed for emergencies.
