Turning the Red Zone into a Green Zone
On Wednesday 5th June at Brooker Reserve, there was a great example of tuakana- teina in action.
Year 12 Shirley BHS Outdoor Education students worked alongside Year 3 and Year 6 Queenspark School students, planting native trees.
In the two-degree temperature conditions, students managed to plant around 140 plants that will help encourage not only native birds to come into the area to feed and shelter, and help with the absorption of C02 to develop a beautiful environment for families to visit.
Below are pictures of students planting and cunning ways of trying to keep warm during the morning!
A big thankyou to Avon Otakaro Forest Park (Denise), for the plants, Dave from the CCC for his expertise in the area and to David Newton and Eco Action for supplying the wheelbarrows.
A fantastic example of local community groups, collaboratively working together to achieve a common goal.
