The following subjects are available for students to study in 2020

Media Studies:   12Med   Full Year

Course Description: This course is a combination of both the production and study of a variety of media texts. There will be an analysis of film genre, focussing on ‘slasher’ horror films. Television narrative structure will be examined, with an emphasis on the genre of animated sitcoms. Students will also design and produce either a podcast or short film in groups and an accompanying script.

Students will also be offered the opportunity to attend short courses on media production through the Yoobee School College of Design and attend a radio broadcasting course at Ara.

Recommended Entry Criteria: A good command of written English is essential for the theoretical components of the course. A minimum of 16 credits from 11Ena/Enb is required, or 11His. A willingness to work with a range of production equipment and software is essential.

Qualifications to be gained: Level 2 Achievement Standards, 20 credits total.

UE Literacy: Yes. Reading 4 credits. Writing 7 credits.

Course Description: Like 12Med, this course will be a combination of practical and theoretical components. The relationship between the genre of Science Fiction and society will be explored. Students will also carry out independent research on a significant development in the media. Students will also design and produce either a podcast or short film using post production technology to enhance their media production.

Students will also be offered the opportunity to attend short courses on media production through the Yoobee School College of Design and attend a radio broadcasting course at Ara.
