Media Studies:   12Med   Full Year

Course Description: Over the first two terms the students will work in small groups or individually on the planning and production of a short film or media product of their choice - which will be entered into one of several film competitions. From Term 3, students will analyse a film genre.

Students will also be offered the opportunity to attend short courses on media production through the Yoobee School College of Design and attend a radio broadcasting course at Ara.

Recommended Entry Criteria: NCEA Level 1.

Qualifications to be gained: Level 2 Achievement Standards, 14 credits total.

UE Literacy: 4 credits Reading or Writing. Optional 3 UE Writing Credits.

Course Description: Like 12Med, over the first two terms the students will work in small groups or individually on the planning and production of a short film or media product of their choice - which will be entered into one of several film competitions. From Term 3, students will analyse the Science Fiction film genre.

Students will also be offered the opportunity to attend short courses on media production through the Yoobee School College of Design and attend a broadcasting course at Ara.

Recommended Entry Criteria: NCEA Level 2. If you have studied Level 2 Media Studies you need to have achieved at least 10 credits in the subject.

Qualifications to be gained: Level 3 Achievement Standards, 20 credits total.

UE Literacy: Yes - 4 credits Reading or Writing (possible 3 credits Writing internal by negotiation).
