To commemorate the 5th Anniversary, a collection of poetry from the “rubble” of the Canterbury earthquakes is being published this month by Clerestory Press. The collection titled “Leaving the Red Zone” has been jointly edited by award winning Canterbury poets Joanna Preston and James Norcliffe. Interestingly, James Norcliffe has connections to Shirley Boys’ High, having taught English here in the past. 86 poets ranging from across NZ to offshore, including SBHS English teacher Gail Collier, whose poem “The Cranes” has been selected for inclusion. Poetry readings will be happening in Christchurch to launch the book, and will be advertised in the local media.
