ADOPT THE AVON: THE MOTHER OF ALL CLEAN UPS

E Smith —

On 7 May - the day before Mother's Day - the Mother of All Clean Ups will take place on the edges of the Avon-Ōtākaro, the estuary Ihutai and the Ōpāwaho-Heathcote. Avon-Ōtākaro Network is coordinating the Adopt the Avon effort on the Ōtākaro Avon River from Barbadoes St bridge to Bridge St bridge.

In this we are partnering with East Lake Trust, Sport Canterbury, SURF Community Trust and Water for Life Trust. We are undertaking this along with city-wide partners Citycare, CCC, Student Volunteer Army and DOC. Our friends at Avon-Heathcote Estuary Ihutai Trust and the Ōpāwaho-Heathcote Network are coordinating the efforts on the other two waterways.

AvON is currently inviting organisations, clubs and community groups to adopt a sector of the river for the clean up and to register their interest in doing so on-line:www.avon.org.nz/adopt

Individuals and family groups can also register on line at the same place:www.avon.org.nz/adopt. Here's a copy of the flyer:http://www.avonotakaronetwork.co.nz/f/7ed83d48513d9aba.pdf. Let's get rid of all the rubbish in our waterways and make them places of pride and joy again.

Put the date in your diary and register now!
