Congratulations!

SBHS —

Regan Rodger (Year 9)  recently won the U15 National Jujitsu competition.

Jesse Webb (Year 10) recently came second in the U55kg NZ Secondary School Judo championships.

Bailey Cumming (Year 12)  for his achievements in Powerlifting over recent months. Bailey broke the South Island record in the 66kg and under class, and also in the sub-Junior class (ages 14-18) and also Junior Class (ages 18-24) by lifting 162.5kg in the squat; 100kg in the bench press and 170kg in the dead lift. In total his lifts were 432.5kg, which meant he smashed the previous record by over 40kg. These results built on his successes at the Oceania and Asia Championships where he lifted in the U59kg section. He placed first in the squat and bench and second in the dead lift. He also broke the Oceania record for the bench press in securing first place overall.

Next up for Bailey is the Nationals in Dunedin in September. We wish him all the best for Nationals and look forward to further positive results.

Keeley Legge (Year 13) pictured below with Assistant Coach Lee Munt, holding the trophy that the Canterbury U18 Regional men's team won in the NZ Hockey U18 Regional Men's Tournament, in Whangarei during the July school holidays.

Nick Sinclair (Year 10) competed in the National BMX Championships in April this year, placing 6th overall. He was the only South Islander in his age group to compete and his achievement is even more remarkable given that he only received clearance in October last year, after spending eight weeks in a back brace following an accident which left him with two fractured vertebra.
