Kiwi students to visit Battle of Somme site

Congratulations to Sean Takai who has been selected as one of ten students to travel to France in September to mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. The students will tour major World War 1 battlefields in France and Belgium. Then, on September 15, they will attend the 100th anniversary ceremony to mark New Zealand's involvement.

International Boys School Coalition Student and Teacher Forum

On 22 June 2016 Mr Keats, Mr Dixon and I boarded an Air New Zealand flight to Vancouver to be apart of the IBSC student forum as well as the IBSC teachers forum.

We departed Christchurch at approximately 5:30 PM to Auckland International airport. Then off to Vancouver we went. We arrived in Vancouver at approximately 2:10 PM on Wednesday 22 June Canadian time. As expected we took at least a good hour and a bit just to get out of the terminal so is really felt like 100 million years. For the rest of the day we explored Vancouver searching through malls and shops and cruising around in our flash rental car on the opposite side of the road. I got to see things that we don't see here New Zealand. The different foods, stores, and the most shocking thing was the homeless. Friday came in the blink of an eye, the day the International Boys School Coalition began. I arrived at this forum having no clue what was about to come. We studied the form with the banquet with every boy and their mentors. We then did a meet-and-greet just to put a face to the names that we had only seen on Facebook. At the end of the night we were billeted out to students of the school who were hosting the forum for two nights.

Throughout the forum we had inspiring leaders talk about their life stories and journeys, not only the fun and happy times but also the hard-going and rough times. Each speaker shared their passion and what they're doing with it. Every speech demonstrated one of the sub themes of 'passion to action', but the core focus was based around the theme of ' GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP ' the main theme of the forum both students and teachers. I really enjoyed my time in Vancouver. I saw a whole new perspective on things that I had, I gained possibly some life-long friends and international contacts but, most importantly, I will not forget the hard work of Mr  Keats, Mr  Dixon, and everyone behind the scenes did to make this trip of a lifetime happen so I am so grateful for the opportunity.
