SBHS 180 Darts Club

Mike Skinner —

Terms 3 and 4 were a busy time for the SBHS 180 Darts Club. During the last week of Term 3, the Year 9 players had their final tournament.

All  Year 9 players had spend considerable time and effort honing their skills and accuracy for this – the honour being named the best Year 9 Darts player being just reward. There were a number of upsets in the early section play, with an early favourite, Jacob Cowie, suffering a shock loss – putting him straight into the Plate playoff. He duly dominated this section and capped a fine season.

The final was a superb game between Bailey Nolan and Dylan Heathcote. Bailey started with some early dominance but he couldn’t maintain his accuracy for the entire match. Dylan Heathcote proved to be too strong in the end, and thus finished a fine darts season with the title.

To finish the year, an All-Comers Tournament was played. This was open to any SBHS student, not just the registered Spartan Sports 180 Darts Club members. A number of students came and tried their luck. Most players, couldn’t match the accuracy and consistency displayed by regular club members. However, Ryan James, proved to be a real match for the regulars. He finished runner- up overall and should be proud of this effort.

However, Matt Kendall edged out all-comers, to be crowned champion for another year. His consistency and technique was just too good. He has moved up the ranks of the Christchurch club darts scene and this high-level match play showed through at school level. He will soon look to be challenging Mr Skinner as the best Darts athlete at SBHS.

And in a reversal of the Term 3 Year 9 Final, Bailey Nolan dominated Dylan Heathcote to claim 3rd overall – a great achievement.
