China Visit, International Congress of Mathematics Education and Massey University.

China

Tom Davies, (HoD Mathematics) recently visited China at the invitation of Hangzhou Normal University. He lectured Students, staff and visited many schools while he was there. He was invited to show how Maths is taught in Shirley Boys High School and how the NCEA Mathematics encourages problem solving and thinking. It was a hugely successful visit and very informative.

Tom has been invited back to China to teach in the University and Schools over there to demonstrate his teaching in action.

International Congress of Mathematics Education

Tom has also been invited to represent Hangzhou Normal University and SBHS at the ICME in Shanghai in the July holidays next year. He will be delivering papers on Maths there.

Massey University

The Maths Department have been working hard for the last few years on DMIC, to improve Maths skills of our students. They have been working with Massey University during that time. It has been very successful. Recently Massey University came into the school to video and observe the good work going on.
