Yr 11 Outdoor Education class gives back to Papatuanuku

Roger Miller —

We spend so much of our time out and about exploring the Canterbury region (and sometimes beyond) it's important that being outdoor enthusiasts we fully embrace the Shirley Boys mantra of "Better Than Before" and take care of every place we visit.

The attached images show our boys embracing this.

  • Planting natives from the SBHS Nursery at Travis Wetlands.

We would like to thank Canterbury Landscapes Services  for their excellent potting and seed raising mix.  Also Mr Dave Newton, for his ongoing commitment to SBHS and to caring for our local areas.

  • Picking up rubbish in a car park on Mairehau Road

This rubbish went into the white buckets that live in the SBHS vans. 16 students collected  16  pieces in 30 seconds, that would have potentially entered our local waterways.

  • Coastal Walk

The image below shows one of the discarded items we've come across - a double bed mattress!
