Year 10 Camps
Last term, four year 10 classes took part in Outdoor Education Camps at Purau.
These were 10G and 10H Physical Education classes, followed by Year 10 Sport Development.
The boys faced the challenge of climbing Te Ahu Patiki (Mount Herbert, 919m) on the first day, and succeeded in reaching the top of the highest peak on Banks Penninsula.
The next couple of days the boys rotated through activities which included kayaking, coasteering, mountain biking and some experienced rock climbing.
Each student also contributed to cooking the evening’s dinner, by either digging a hāngi pit, peeling the vegetables, preparing the baskets, laying the hāngi, uncovering the kai when it had cooked and returning the environment to how it was before the hāngi was laid. The hāngi may have been a new experience for many of the students and working in hapori (community) for the benefit of all proved to be a great success for all involved.
Outdoor Education camps provide an opportunity for students to step outside their comfort zone, support others, build stronger relationships with their classmates and teachers and connect to the local environment and area that we are fortunate to be able to recreate in.
