Mini Marae

Manaia Wilson-Moses’s Mini Marae is currently being built by Naylor Love (builders of the Transitional [Cardboard] Cathedral) and The Isaac Theatre Royal. We have been to regular meetings with the design, engineering and building team at Naylor Love [See Photo above]. If all goes to plan, the Mini Marae will be on the School site for a few days in October, and finally secured on site in Brighton in front of the Library and Pier on 19 October.

It offers a fascinating insight into the construction industry and the final building will be tremendously popular in Brighton.

Cantamath 2016

This year Mr Yeh, Mr Galway and I prepared and took five teams to the Cantamath competition at the Horncastle Arena. Schools from Timaru to Amuri took part and there were about 80 teams per age group.

This was the largest number of students we have taken to Cantamath. Although we did not win, our students were awesome and some of the Year 9's are already practicing for next year.

Year 9:

  • A - Tyler Phipps, Baxter Colyer, Liam Taylor, Zeke Newcombe
  • B - Jack Trevaskis, Oliver Schefer, Sam Rautao, Indy Hawthorne
  • C - Xain McIntyre, Herrick Zhang, Marshall Patrick, Jackson Kelly, Lucas MacDonald

Year 10:

  • A - Reuben Willis, David Walle, Bhumik Patel, Josh Loudon
  • B - George Belcher, Chevy Hira, Michael Tusani, Adam Lewington

The students were excellent representatives and ambassadors of the school. Well done lads!

Ice Hockey

Matheson Graham (Year 11) and Goal Keeper, Finley Forbes (Year 10) have been members of the New Zealand Ice Hockey Under-17 Development Squad for the past twelve months.

They have attended three week-long camps throughout the year in Auckland, Dunedin and Queenstown.

Both were selected for the Under-17 South Island Team to compete in the 'Skate of Origin' against an Under-17 North Island Team on Saturday 3 September at the Avondale rink in Auckland.

This Under-17 game was the 'curtain raiser' for the Senior Men's 'Skate of Origin'.

The Under-17's resulted with a South win 5 - 1, Matheson scoring 2 of the goals.

On the following Sunday a 'Skills Challenge' was held which included the three disciplines - Fastest Lap, Shooting Accuracy and Fastest Shot. This saw Matheson taking first place in the 'Shooting Accuracy' hitting four targets/with six attempts/in sixteen seconds.

Both boys have also been part of the SBHS Ice Hockey team that has been playing in the High School League in Terms 2 and 3 this year.

Rugby League
