Message from the Board

SBHS Board —

Tēnā koutou katoa,

On behalf of the Board, I would like to acknowledge everyone for their contribution to Ngā Tama o Ōruapaeroa - Shirley Boys’ High School over the last term. There has been a lot of disruption due to the industrial action from PPTA and this has had an impact on students. The rostering home has been difficult and is an additional burden for families and whānau as they support their sons with their learning at school.

As a Board we understand the challenge, but we also support our teachers. They are doing a good job teaching the students and contributing to the success of the school in a variety of ways. As we celebrate the fantastic major production of High School Musical in the last week of term, we should reflect that all of the staff involved in this are not being paid. They are doing it because they want to support students and see them thrive. It is important that teachers' pay and conditions reflect the work they do, and is good enough to attract and retain excellent teachers.

I hope that the Ministry of Education and PPTA are able to achieve an outcome over the next few weeks that recognises the good and hard work teachers do, and allows them to get back to teaching and supporting the students at Ngā Tama o Ōruapaeroa - Shirley Boys’ High School for the second half of the year.

Nāhaku noa
