Nomad, Old Boy Graduates

Congratulations to Old Boys' Aasha Mallard, Will McGillivray and Cullen Kiesanowski on their recent success with the release of Oh My My and Love Will Call.

The boys left Shirley Boys' High School at the end of 2015 a year in which they won the Demaine Robertson Award for Outstanding Contributions to Culture.

Dr Daniel Holland (at Shirley 1993-97) has jointly won the Emerging Innovator Award at the 2016 KiwiNet Awards that recognise an entrepreneurial researcher who is making outstanding contributions to business innovation in New Zealand. He has a strong track record of applying novel measurement and mathematical analysis techniques to improve efficiency in the chemical industries.

Daniel Holland graduated BE(Hons) from the University of Canterbury then completed his PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Cambridge in 2006. He has worked with major international companies as well as specialist technology companies, after which he returned to the University of Canterbury and is currently a senior lecturer in the College of Engineering’s Chemical and Process Engineering Department.

Tom Christie, last year’s First XV captain and presently studying for an Engineering degree at Canterbury University, has been awarded an Infor University Rugby Scholarship for 2016. Tom, a member of the Crusaders Academy, balances intensive rugby training with university study and is looking towards a career in civil engineering with a possible entry into professional rugby in the future.
