Leanne Russ —

Spring has arrived and it is a welcome break from the winter months. No matter what the season our International Student Body remain busy!

September saw a range of activities for our students. Keigo took part in a three day tramp with his Outdoor Education class.  Carrying a heavy pack for three days and camping out was challenging, but Keigo handled it well.

Bohan, Liew, Gus, Yusuke and Koki visited Arion Farm Education Park at McLeans Island. They enjoyed meeting a large variety of animals. It was a very hands on experience. Luckily the llamas were well behaved and there was no spitting.

After the farm visit, we had a 18 hole round of mini golf. It was like an international challenge between China, Japan, Thailand and Brazil! The grand champion this year was Liew from Thailand. While Ms Russ was no where near his score,  it must be said she did manage four hole in ones!

Keigo recently celebrated his 17th birthday. Happy Birthday Keigo!

Yusuke enjoyed the Avonside Girls' cultural evening performances which was held in the Shirley Boys' Hall. It was a fun, lively and  noisy evening event.

On Thursday 28th September,  Bohan and Keigo took part in the Junior Ski Trip. Watch this space for a report next month.

Shirley was very honoured to host a group of  seven Thai educators from the Salesian Order.  A Memorandum of Understanding was signed and we hope to host a short- term group from them next year. The short-term study programme is a "taster" for their students and it is our hope that in in the future, some of the students may decide to return for longer term study.

Our long term students had a day for course planning. Students had individual interviews and looked at the best subject choices for their future study. This is a very important planning process, as it allows our students to understand the best way forward not only at high school, but how best to pathway in to the next step after graduating from High School.  It is wonderful to see our international students setting high goals and working hard to achieve them!
