SBHS 1st XI Hockey v SBHS Hockey Old Boys, 100th game for Oliver Lewis.

The first annual SBHS 1st XI Hockey v Shirley Hockey Old Boys was played on the Shirley turf on Wednesday 29 July.

The old boys team comprised of:

  • Vaughan England

  • Lachlan Forbes
  • Matheson Graham
  • Matt Gowans
  • Chevy Hira
  • Josh Kumbaroff
  • Josh Nimmo
  • Carey Poulsen
  • George Thomas
  • Willie Thomas
  • Coach – Tim Harvey

The game comprised of two 25-minute halves. The old boys played all their hockey games in two halves whereas modern hockey comprises of four 15 quarters and is played at a much faster pace.

The 1st XI wanted to show their dominance of the game and came out fast and hard and scored the first goals within two minutes.

The cool calm heads of the experienced hockey old boys soon started to show and they scored the second goal of the match.

The old boys asserted their dominance on the game and scored 4 unanswered game in the second half. The result of the game was 6-2 to the Shirley Hockey Old Boys.

100th game for Oliver Lewis

Oliver Lewis

Oliver plays in the key role of goalkeeper for the 1st XI hockey team. 

 In 2016 as a Year 9 student he was the reserve keeper for the 1st XI and by the end of the season he had played 9 games for Shirley. 

In 2017 he became goalkeeper for Shirley 1st XI hockey. 

This year Oliver joins a very elite group of boys who have represented Shirley by playing over 100 games in their chosen sport. 

He played his 100th hockey game for SBHS on Wednesday 5 August which was also an away game for the team when they played Timaru Boys in Ashburton.
