Pipe Band

Congratulations to Lyle Hollobon, who competed in the 2021 New Zealand Pipe Band Championship competition held in Hawkes Bay on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th March.

Attended by around 40 pipe bands from across New Zealand, the competition is split into five grades of ability. In each grade, the championship is decided over two music events and a street march.

Over the two days,  Lyle competed with the Canterbury Caledonian Society Grade three band, which also consists of some SBHS Old Boys (Harrison Allen, Matthew Croft and Alex McNeil).

The band won the overall grade three championship for this year, with each band member receiving an individual medal. 

Some members of the band have played for over 30 years and never won such a prestigious event! 

Last week, Lyle was also awarded "Most Improved Player In Grade Three" at the Caledonian Society AGM.
