Flying to New Heights

Rachel Campbell —

Four students are undertaking an Aviation course via the Gateway programme. They were lucky enough to meet Richie McCaw.

As part of their Aviation Gateway programme, students got to meet Richie McCaw who spoke to them about his pathway into the aviation industry, as well as provide some advice on how to achieve their goals. The Airforce was also on hand to discuss pathways for those who were thinking about the Airforce. Much to the student's delight, the Airforce flew down two of their planes for the boys to check out.

During the 10-week course, students are given the opportunity to, amongst other things, undertake three flights (on either fixed-wing planes or helicopters), visit Air Traffic Control and Air New Zealand Engineering. The skills and knowledge gained during this course are invaluable to anyone considering a career in any aspect of the  Aviation world. The boys couldn't speak more highly of the course and the opportunities it offers.

The course is run in conjunction with the Canterbury Aero Club. For more information, speak to Mrs Campbell or Mr Stocks in the Gateway/Careers department.
