The 2021 hockey season started early for the senior hockey team with a three day pre-season trip south to Invercargill.
Hockey is becoming a sport that is played all year round and the trip was part of the annual summer sports exchange with Southland Boys.
The team meet at 5:45am on Monday 15 February, vans were quickly packed, coaches picked up and the team headed south.
The team arrived in Dunedin at 11:15am and 45 minutes later they were playing their first game of the season against John McGlashan.
This is a tough fought match and the team showed good structure and teamwork and narrowly lost the game 1-2. Joseph Collins scored the first goal of the season. The shot was hit close to the goal and went into the roof. Two and a half hours later the boys were leaving Dunedin and on the way to Invercargill.
Tuesday 16 February saw the team have a double header against Southland Boys winning the first game of the day 3-0. Two goals to Danie Beukes and one goal to Shahid Ali.
The second game of the day finished with a 1-1 draw with Shahid Ali scoring the only goal of the game.
