Course Description: This Year 9 HPE course, Athlete Development, is a comprehensive program designed to equip junior secondary students with the physical skills and critical knowledge necessary for athletic performance, injury prevention, and lifelong holistic well-being. Students will participate in practical training sessions integrated with theoretical concepts to become informed, self-managing, and highly competent movers.

The course structure focuses on a progressive understanding of training exercise science and personal health management.

1. The Science of Training

Students will establish a foundational understanding of how the body adapts to exercise.

  • Components of Fitness:

  • Methods of Training

  • Principles of Training

  • Fitness Testing

2. This module introduces students to the effective and safe use of resistance training.

  • Safe Lifting Techniques in the Weights Room

  • Training Programming Basics

3. Health, Mindset, and Recovery

Students will explore the non-physical elements essential for optimal performance and well-being:

  • Sports Nutrition

  • Recovery Methods

  • Sport Psychology

  • Goal Setting
