PADDLE SPORTS (Bronze)

Russell Stocks —

Teacher in charge: Mr R Stocks

Incorporating Dragon Boating and Waka Ama

Terms: Year round training, with main competitions in Terms 1 & 4.

Competition: Local regattas throughout summer including South Island Champs.

National Championships in both sports.

Training: Various days in Term 1 and 4 but generally Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 6.00am.

Venues:

Avon River from Owles Terrace jetty for training.

Lake Pegasus if Avon not suitable, and for various regattas.

Lake Hood (Ashburton) for South Island and/or Nationals (even years).

Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lake), Rotorua for Nationals (odd years).

Uniform: Thermal tops, windbreakers, beanies or caps required for training.

Race singlet and thermal top supplied by school on race days.

Water footwear and rugby shorts supplied by boys.

PFDs (Personal Flotation Devices) supplied by SBHS for Waka Ama.

Team polo shirt as uniform item for Nationals available at provider cost.

Equipment: Training paddles and race paddles supplied by school.

Dragon Boats supplied by Aoraki Dragon Boat Association.

Waka supplied by local clubs and SBHS.

Costs: Sport Fee $60.

All costs involved in travelling to Nationals or any other regattas outside of Christchurch are to be paid for by the boys, either directly or by fundraising.
