The following courses are available for study in 2026

Music Technology: 12 Mut Full Year

Course Description: This course will develop theoretical and practical skills for using technical equipment in the Performing Arts field: Making music on the computer, PA systems and digital recording systems. There is an emphasis on computer based music, live sound and the NZ music industry.

The L2 Composition Achievement Standard is also incorporated into this course, with students completing at least two songs written using computer based recording software and students can also achieve performance based NCEA standards.

Recommended Entry Criteria: No entry criteria, however a strong interest in music is crucial, and it is an advantage to also be studying one of 11/12/13Mus

Qualifications to be gained: Level 2 Unit and Achievement Standards.

UE Literacy: No

Restrictions: Ideally students will have a musical instrument and be receiving tuition; however this is not essential for entry to the course.

Music Technology: 13 Mut Full Year

Course Description: This course will develop theoretical and practical skills for using technical equipment in the Performing Arts field: Making music on the computer, PA systems and digital recording systems. There is an emphasis on computer based music, songwriting, live musical performances and recording, mixing live sound and the NZ music industry. Students will compose a minimum of three computer based recordings for L3 Composition in our fully equipped recording studio and can also achieve performance based NCEA standards. Each student will work on an individual education plan that suits their skill set.  Students will also have the opportunity to plan and run an event that benefits the wider community that would be student led and based on the individual students passions and talents. 

Recommended Entry Criteria: Preferably students would have completed 12Mut before 13Mut is attempted. It is also an advantage to be studying one of 11/12/13 Mus and play an instrument; however this is not a requirement.

Qualifications to be gained: Level 2 and 3 Unit and Achievement Standards credits.

UE Literacy: No
