Out Of School Achievements
Indoor Cricket, Judo, Trampolining, Basketball, Powerlifting
Congratulations to Year 12 student Ryan James who competed in the U22 provincial Indoor Cricket Tournament in Auckland towards the end of Term 2.
Canterbury made the final against Wellington but unfortunately lost the final.
At the awards/presentation night on Saturday 1st July, Ryan was awarded MVP for the U22 Canterbury side and was also chosen in the U22 NZ team to play at the World Cup in Dubai this September.
This is a fantastic achievement especially as Ryan is only 16 years of age. The school wishes him well for the World Cup tournament in September.
Judo
Congratulations to Jesse Webb, who competed for Mairusu Kai at the Central Districts Open Judo Championships, in Motueka on 17th June.
He fought hard to win gold in the -55kg Senior Boys, gold in the Open Senior Boys, and bronze in the -55kg Cadet category.
Trampolining
Congratulations to Bradon Freeman who won two gold and one silver medal for trampolining at the Olympia Gym Sports South Island Championships recently, This qualified Bradon for the National competition later in the year.
Basketball
Congratulations to Dylan Weiach on his recent success at the Australian Basketball Tournament, held in Nunawading.

Dylan is a member of North Canterbury Basketball and has a very bright future ahead of him. With basketball, he has exceptional talent.
Powerlifting
Bailey Cummings is a year 12 student with an amazing talent for SBD (Squat, Bench, Deadlift) Powerlifting.
Bailey is the National Champion in the 59kg weight class – sub junior and junior classes.
He also holds all the New Zealand records for his weight class, 1 Oceania and 1 Asia record for SBD Powerlifting. His bench press for his Oceania and Asia tile is 98kg.
Bailey has 100kg record for bench press, 162.5kg squat lift and 170kg deadlift records for his South Island Champion win in the 66kg weight class (this is above his weight class).
Bailey’s records for his weight category (59kg) are Bench press 98kg, Squat 155kg and Deadlift 175kg. This is lifting more than 3 times his own body weight.
These are just some of his more recent tiles and now he is aiming for next year’s Commonwealth Games.
