Junior Curriculum - General Information
In Year 9, all students are required to study five core subjects and will have the opportunity to explore a variety of option subjects.
These option subjects are taught three times a week, and students take two option subjects at a time. Most subjects run for one term, so students will experience up to eight different option subjects during the year. Language subjects run for two terms.
Important Notes:
To study a language at Year 10 and above a student must study that language in Year 9 (occasionally an exception is made, if you think this may apply then please discuss this with us now).
To study Music at Year 10 and above, a student must study at least 9Mus Music Introduction in Year 9.
Other than Languages and Music, all other option subjects can be picked up at Year 10 even though they were not studied in Year 9.
Core Subjects
English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Physical Education are compulsory.
Option Subjects
Art Digital, Art Practical, Athlete Development, Computing, Design and Visual Communication, Drama, Economics, Food Studies, French, Japanese, Engineering Technology, Wood Technology, Māori, Music Introduction, Music Advanced, Music Band, Samoan.
