It is time for the School’s Parent Community to have their say in nominating and electing five members to the Board of Trustees for the next three-year term of the Board.

As is the case in most New Zealand State Schools, the triennial elections will take place during the next few weeks.

In common with other schools, the Education Act provides for the membership of the Board to include five members elected by the parents. 

The full composition of the Board is:

• Five members nominated and elected by the parents of the current students
• The Headmaster
• A member nominated and elected by the staff of the school
• A member elected by the students.

The current members of the Board elected by the parents are shown on the School’s website.

They are:

• Tony Deavoll – Chairperson
• Sarah Clark – Deputy Chairperson
• Neil Falconer
• Andrew Hood
• Teresa Wooding

A number of these members are available for re-election.

The other members of the current Board of Trustees are:

• John Laurenson – Headmaster
• Melissa McGraw – a co-opted member
• Steve Garland – elected by the staff
• Sarmad Qamar – elected by the students.

All parents will be contacted directly around 10th May by Canterbury Education Services Ltd (CES) regarding the process for nominating someone to be one of the five parent representatives. CES will also conduct an election if the number of nominations exceeds the five positions available, with voting papers being distributed on 29 May and voting closing at 12noon on Friday 7 June.

Key dates are as follows;

By Friday 10th May -  Nomination forms will be posted to all persons on the school’s caregiver roll.

Friday 24th May -  NOMINATIONS CLOSE on 24th May at noon. An election will then be held if the number of nominations exceed vacancies.  For our school, the number of vacancies is five.

Wednesday 29th May - Voting papers will be sent by post to all on the school caregiver roll.

Friday 7th June - Voting closes at 12 noon.

Thursday 13th June -  Votes are counted, and our school is advised of the results.

Friday 14th June - New Board takes office
