Year 10 Outdoor Education

Merryn Herlihy —

Recently, the two Year 10 Sport Development Classes, followed by two Year 10 PE classes, journeyed by ferry to Purau for their three-day Outdoor Education Camp.

The boys enjoyed a day walk up Mount Herbert on Day one of their respective camps. This either meant they spent time in the clouds or were able to take in the stunning views of Te Whakaraupo (Lyttelton Harbour).

The remainder of the camp had the students rotate through various activities including Rock Climbing, Coasteering, Kayaking, Mountain Biking and Raft Building for the Sport Development Classes. Many of the students were experiencing these activities for the first time and did so in a well-supported environment, thanks to their classmates, student leaders and teachers who were involved in the camp.

Each evening, the boys had the opportunity to compete against other teams displaying the various talents they have. Flexibility, juggling, focus and strength, comedy and many other talents were on display. Night activities always provided high-energy entertainment.

Towards the end of Term Four, the remaining Year 10 PE classes will be attending camp as part of their Physical Education Curriculum.
