11 Drama:   11Dra   Full Year 

Course Description: This is a course based on the new NCEA standards. In drama, the phases of learning are defined by performances on stage. Year 11 drama aims to build students' confidence, creative skills, and acting ability. Students will have the opportunity to integrate technical theatrical elements, lighting, sound and stage design into their performances. The class takes place either in the small theatre or in the drama room. This course requires a willingness to perform in front of others. There are 4 opportunities for credits throughout the year. 2 assessments are intenral and 2 are external. Each assessment is worth 5 credits.

Recommended Entry Criteria: Passed Year 10 English Exam or passed Year 10 Drama. Extra-curricular performing arts experience (e.g White Sunday, Kapahaka)

12 Drama:   12Dra   Full Year

Course Description: This course requires written communication skills and a willingness to perform in front of others. Students can also be awarded credits for extracurricular drama performance if in this subject. The course is practical focused, with an emphasis on building practical dramatic experience and confidence. Students will be expected to complete multiple performances throughout the year for credits, along with external examinations at the commencement of the year. 

Recommended Entry Criteria: A minimum of 13 credits from 11Dra, if studied. Otherwise 13 credits from any English rich subject.

Qualifications to be gainedLevel 2 Achievement Standard credits

UE Literacy: Yes - 12 credits Reading, 4 credits Writing

13 Drama:   13Dra   Full Year

Course Description: This course focuses on Drama in its more sophisticated forms. It requires independent study skills, written communication skills and a willingness to perform in front of others. Students can be awarded credits for extracurricular drama performance if in this subject. Both practical and theoretical aspects of Drama will be developed. The students perform in the small theatre with theory lessons taking place in the drama room.

Recommended Entry Criteria: A minimum of 10 credits from 12Ena/Enb/Enc if studied, or 12Dra, otherwise Level 2 Certificate

UE Literacy: Yes - 17 credits Reading and 4 credits Writing.

UE Approved: Yes

Qualifications to be gained: Level 3 Achievement Standard credits; possibility of scholarship.
