Army Award, Gymnastics Success.

Army Award

On Sunday 19th November 2017, Sean Hartgers (Old Boy 2015) graduated from the NZ Army All Arms Recruit Course 387 (alongside 84 other recruits in Rafah Company). The graduation parade included presentation of six awards and Sean was honoured to receive the Top Warrior Award for ‘the recruit who achieved the highest score on Exercise Warrior, a 24-hour activity that tested the skills they had learnt throughout AARC’.


Gymnastics

Jorden O’Connell-Inns and Aaron Clutterbuck.

At the end of the 2016 season, Jorden O’Connell-Inns won the Senior International All Around title at NZ Nationals.

Due to his great results throughout the season, he qualified for the Melbourne World Cup in February 2017 where he competed his strongest apparatus, Pommel, finishing 12th.

He made it onto the Commonwealth Games longlist and based on Selection in March 2017, he went on tour to two more World Cups in September to Szomathely, Hungary, and Paris, France.

In Paris, Jorden hit his pommel routine for a personal best score and a 24th place finish against some of the best gymnasts in the world, including world and Olympic medalists and Champions.

Jorden retuned to NZ for New Zealand nationals where he placed second in the All Around, second on Pommels and 1st on the Parallel Bars.

In 2018, Jorden will have the opportunity to push for more international events including Commonwealth Games, Pacific Rim, World Cups and the World Championships in Doha.

Aaron Clutterbuck is a full-time coach at Christchurch School of Gymnastics. He has been a Canterbury Coach at Nationals for the last four years.

This year, he was selected to be a NZ National Coach to the Valeri Liukin Championships in Texas, USA, on his first International appointment as a coach.
