The following course is compulsory for students to study in 2024

The course is the first year in a two-year programme leading to Year 11 English where standards are both externally and internally assessed.  

The general aims are set out in the NZ National Curriculum and the course is designed to develop skills in the various "strands".

Year 9 Course Description: 

• Oral Language - Listening and Speaking
  
• Written Language - Reading and Writing
  
• Visual Language - Viewing and Presenting
  

Although reading all kinds of texts and writing in a variety of styles are central to the programme, the other two strands give opportunities to those students who learn by seeing or listening, and express themselves better by speaking and presenting.
