A highlight in Junior Social Studies on 28 October, was two teams achieving success in the New Zealand-wide ODT / Education Perfect Current Events Quiz.

The Quiz was held fully online with over 2000 competitors from around New Zealand. In the Year 9 and 10 section there were over 200 teams, from Invercargill to Whangārei.

There were a wide range of questions, from the expected current events, in New Zealand and from around the World but also a lot of general knowledge required of different parts of the world and covering topics from politics to popular culture to history and geography.

When the results were announced live at the end of the day, the Shirley Boys’ team of Bradley Mutch, Johnny Andrews and Flynn Williams had gained 2nd Place in Canterbury and 7th equal in New Zealand. This team of Maia Te tohu a tu Gerrard, Nico Parkes Brown and Seth De Rose were 1 point behind for 3rd in Canterbury and 9th in New Zealand.
