Tim Grocott —

Gary Stead appointed as New Zealand Cricket Coach.

Congratulations to Gary Stead who last month was appointed as the new Black Caps coach.

Gary played five tests as a top-order batsman for New Zealand in 1999 before establishing a successful coaching career with Canterbury and the New Zealand women's team.

As Canterbury coach he guided them to four domestic titles in four years between 2013 and 2017.

Gary attended Shirley Boys’ in 1985-89 and was a highly regarded young man throughout his five years. He was the captain of a highly successful First XI for three years, which also included fellow New Zealand cricketer Nathan Astle, played First XV Rugby and was Deputy Head Boy in 1989.

We congratulate Gary and wish him a successful tenure as New Zealand coach.
