Kia ora koutou

Last week we had an opportunity to farewell our seniors students with the Year 13 Prizegiving and Graduation and the Year 11 and 12 Prizegiving. Both of these were an excellent occasion to celebrate the success of our boys. It was disappointing that we were unable to have parents and whānau at the prizegiving's as they are a celebration, and celebrations need to be shared with those who are important, however we were able to stream the events and I know that a number of parents and whānau watched with pride as their sons crossed the stage. I would like to congratulate all of the boys. They have made a great contribution to Shirley Boys’ High School, and I know that our Year 13 leavers are well prepared for their world as they embark on life beyond school.

We continue to work through the vaccination process as required in the lead up to the introduction of the Covid 19 Protection Framework. Over the next few weeks, we will be contacting families and whānau to get an indication of your son’s vaccination status. While this is not mandatory, it will be important to know what your son’s status is as it is becoming more likely that schools, events and places will require people to be fully vaccinated.

Last week was the final PTA meeting for the year. I would like to thank the parents who are involved for their continued support of the school. Whether it be helping out at the various events we hold, running uniform sales, supporting students, or generally being a supportive group of whānau, your input is greatly appreciated.

Over the remainder of the term we can look forward to the opportunity for some students to go on the Year 10 Camps. These are an important occasion for the boys to have a different educational experience, and really exhibit our values of Character and Better Than Before. I encourage boys to get involved and enjoy the camps.
