Spartan Sports Update

JSI —

November started off brilliantly with both the Condor Sevens Qualifiers and the Canterbury Schools Athletics Championships in the first week. Our Sevens team placed just outside of the qualifying spots in the tournament but made quite the impact with some of our players now vying for spots in the New Zealand age group team.

We had a thoroughly successful canterbury athletics as well, winning 3 golds, 4 silvers and 3 bronzes. Our standout performances came from Finn Woodhouse winning the 3000m Run, Ethan Price winning the boys High Jump and Walter Stevenson winning the boys Long Jump. Congratulations to all our competitors who represented Shirley Boys' so well over the weekend’s competition and Goodluck to both Ethan Price and Kieran Sinclair-Lomax who are heading to Nationals next month!

Both the Touch and Futsal competitions came to a close this month, and Shirley found themselves in the final for both these Competitions. Our Year 10 touch side won their final 5-4 over a very strong Hillmorton side. A try with the last play of the game saw us go unbeaten this term and win the title.

Futsal is an ever-growing sport here at Shirley and we continued our dominance on the scene with both our Futsal teams making the final in the Term 4 competition. Shirley vs Shirley in the final meant it was a win win situation, the boys still competed strongly, but it was our gold team that came out on top and picked up the Futsal title.
