Parking Management Plan

Transport Issues

Tim Grocott —

Recently the Christchurch City Council Traffic Operations Team consulted with the local community about the parking and transport issues that have arisen since our arrival in the area.

The main issues raised were parking in the surrounding streets Wattle Drive, Willryan Avenue and Blue Gum Place. Our students are parking in these areas which cause concern for residents as the streets are too narrow for parking on both sides, and there are concerns about safety.

Shirley Boys High School made a submission which asked for very limited parking restrictions and asked that residents take some more time to find out the impact of our arrival.  However, the feedback the Council received led to it making changes in the local area, and the Waitai / Coastal Burwood Community Board approved these at their meeting on 16th September. These changes will be in place by the middle of November.

Key points to note:

  • P120 and P60 parking restriction on the south side of Travis Road
  • P120 parking restrictions in Blue Gum Place
  • P120 parking restrictions in Wattle Drive
  • P120 parking restrictions in Willryan Avenue
  • P120 parking restrictions in Bower Avenue
  • Stopping restriction (yellow no stopping lines) around intersection and bends
  • Movement or relocation of some bus stops

Also, a reminder that the Ferndale School car park on the western side of the school is not to be used as a drop-off area or a park for Shirley Boys’ families. They have a number of educational specialists who require parking during the day and also blocking the taxis and vans that collect their students causes a great deal of frustration. Your support in this matter is appreciated.
